The oceans make such an integral part of our lives that we do not give them much thought. From the clothes that we wear, to the food we eat, to the fuels we use for transportation, they all largely come from or through the oceans. Ninety percent of global trade is carried by ships.
Almost all of these vessels/ships rely on dirty (but cheap) heavy fuels for propulsion and diesel powered generators for electricity resulting in incredible amounts of carbon and sulphur emissions. By 2050, shipping will account for 17% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Gaia will merge evolutions of the latest renewable energy technologies with state-of-the-art energy storage & management, all holistically integrated with a light and efficient ship design.
The first application is a Roll-on / Roll-off vehicle & cargo transporter, targeting automotive manufacturers with EVs, enabling a zero-emission link in their logistics chain.
